Introduction
The Kosi region in the north of the state of Bihar is spread over two divisions of Purnea and Saharsa and suffers from the lack of development of road, power, education and medical facilities. Extreme economic backwardness has led to ill health and lack of education for the people of this region. Meritorious students of the region in general and Muslim youths in particular can ill afford to go elsewhere for medical, technical and other professional education. Moreover the common man, the ailing people of the area could not afford to go to distant places for specialized treatment. In view of the aforesaid, there has always been a crying need for a medical college and a hospital in this part of Biharwhich has a Muslim population of about 40%, most of whom exist below the poverty line. To meet this requirement, the Al-Karim Educational Trust, Patna established the Katihar Medical College at Katihar in 1987 under the provisions of Article 30 (i) of the Constitution of
Campus
The campus is situated in a land of fifty acres approximately with a built up area of 6,00,000 sq.ft. and with extension projects nearing completion it shall be 7,00,000 sq.ft. Katihar Medial College Hospital is a 580 teaching bedded hospital. The hospital has experienced consultants in all specialties such as Surgery, Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, TB & Chest, Psychiatry, Skin & VD, Radiology and Anaesthesiology.
The hospital has got modern amenities for Diagnosis & Treatment including MRI, C.T. The hospital has all major OPD's running daily. The Operation Theatres are equipped with latest equipments like ventilator, defibrillator multi-paramonitors and are being taken care of by full time anaesthetists. All types of General Surgeries, Gynaecological Surgeries, ENT/Eye Surgeries. Medical tests are being done at subsidized rates and for the poor and needy patients, it is allowed free also.
